A Night at the Ski Lodge Helps Local Non-Profit Find Housing Families in Need
Winter Fundraiser Benefits Housing Families First, Formerly Hilliard House
WHAT: Housing Families First, formerly Hilliard House, is hosting its first winter fundraiser, A Night at the Ski Lodge, to gain community support of its mission to provide Richmond families the tools to achieve housing stability.
Après-ski libations, s’mores, decadent fondue and more will be served up fireside in a cozy “ski lodge” at The Boathouse at Sunday Park. Live music, door prizes and an impressive silent auction make this a must-see event.
Guests are encouraged to dress the part (there is a prize for the best sweater) and bring extra winter hats, scarves, & gloves to donate for a chance to win a sled full of wine.
WHEN: January 22, 2015, 7-10pm
WHERE: The Boathouse at Sunday Park, 4602 Millridge Parkway, Midlothian, VA 23112
HOW: Tickets are $95 and available for purchase at www.housingfamiliesfirst.org. All proceeds will go directly to help Housing Families First support Richmond families experiencing homelessness.
DETAILS: Richmond’s longtime shelter, Hilliard House, recently changed its name to Housing Families First to reflect its “housing-first” approach to solving homelessness. The model is designed to move families out of the shelter and into affordable apartments as quickly as possible, then provides them with the tools and support to remain stably housed.
The organization has tripled the number of Richmond families it serves since it first implemented the “housing first” model in 2011. More than 68 families found permanent housing through this program in 2014, earning Housing Families First the Agency of the Year Award from the Virginia Association of Housing Counselors.
