Our Programs

Housing Families First is a Richmond-area 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that works to ensure that every family has a safe place to call home. Housing Families First carries out our mission through three core programs: Our Hilliard House shelter, the Building Neighbors rapid re-housing program, and Bringing Families Home, a partnership program with Chesterfield County, Henrico County, and Richmond City Public Schools. Our programs served almost 700 individuals in 2022, and thousands more through our collaboration in the regional Homeless Connection Line. We recognize that shelter is a human need and that we must come together as a community to solve homelessness in the Richmond region.

In order to best carry out this mission, Housing Families First is a member organization of the Greater Richmond Continuum of Care, a coordinated and compassionate network of homeless service providers in our region seeking to prevent, reduce, and end homelessness through effective and coordinated community-wide efforts and services. In 2022, our region’s CoC network of homeless service providers served over 6,800 people and successfully diverted over 3,000 people away from homelessness through our Homeless Connection Line. We are honored to be a part of this continuum of organizations working to ensure that everyone can afford a place to live. While we recognize the tremendous and positive impact on our community by these collective organizations, we also realize that this impact is insufficient to meet our region’s needs. There is more work to be done, and it will take a village of helpers. Learn how you can get involved through our Give Help page.
