We’re Loving Our New Bedrooms!

We are beyond excited about our newly redecorated Hilliard House shelter rooms! We have brand new bedroom furniture, which has replaced the well-worn furnishings that have served hundreds of families at Hilliard House for the past 18 years. We have increased our shelter capacity from 30 to 37 children and adults at any given time, allowing us to provide over 40% of the emergency beds for families experiencing homelessness in the Richmond region. We are in the process of adding another completely handicapped accessible bedroom for three family members, which will increase our capacity to 40 children and adults at once.

Hilliard House is the only shelter in the area that provides a private room and bathroom to every household, allowing our families to focus on housing in a secure setting. We are incredibly thankful for the opportunity we have been given to provide a safe, supportive stopover, and we recognize that this is truly a collaborative effort.

Groups like Bon Secours School of Nursing, the Federal Reserve, and UPS Freight helped get our rooms ready for the transformation by cleaning and painting. Publix donated new blinds, disassembled worn furnishings, and painted rooms. CARITAS removed our old, heavy furniture. Individual donors and groups contributed all of the linens and toiletries for all of the rooms to help give our families the best start. These impactful changes could not have happened without the help of our village. We are, as always, grateful for the people who support us in our mission!
